Towards the back end of this week's RULE OF THREE with DAVEY JONES we celebrate, rightly, this piece of comic writing from Viz Comic, which we rate as one of the finest pieces of prose ever composed in the English language.

Enjoy.

In memory of all those brain cells who died in its research and creation.

(Rightful credit to Simon Donald, Graham Dury, Simon Thorp, Alex Collier and Davey Jones for raising the bar here impossibly high.)

TOOT! PARP! It is here! In this episode, DAVEY JONES, the singular mind and biro behind the likes of Viz's Gilbert Ratchet and The Vibrating Bum Faced Goats, tells us of his love for the rebel genius of British funny comics LEO BAXENDALE, with particular attention to his WILLY THE KID books - comics so funny that, from personal experience, readers often spit orange squash everywhere and nearly choke to death laughing.

WHOOOOO! (US cop siren noise) It's the latest episode of RULE OF THREE with RUFUS JONES dragging 1980s Robert De Niro / Charles Grodin action-comedy Midnight Run across country in handcuffs for our inspection. How does an "action-comedy" even work? We do our best to find out...

Coming this Thursday, our guest will be the writer, comedian and presenter JON HOLMES, proud recipient of the largest fine ever for taste and decency offences in British broadcasting, who chooses as his comedy landmark, and spirit animal, the Monty Python team's lawyer-exciting final LP of songs and sketches 'MONTY PYTHON'S CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION ALBUM'. Expect a no-holds-barred studio sing-song about traffic lights.

ISY SUTTIE on LOVE, NINA

We're excited to announce that this week's guest on the podcast will be comedy actor, writer and stand-up Isy Suttie (Peep Show, Damned, The Actual One) and she's only gone and brought a book in, possibly in an attempt to impress us with her fancy posh learning words. She's chosen Love, Nina the hilarious book of (genuine) letters by 20-year old midlands nanny Nina Stibbe who spent the 1980s out-of-her-depth amongst the London literary set. This is a really warm, lovely episode, and we talk - amongst other things - about honesty, autobiography and how to turn life into comedy. Hope you like it.

DANIELLE WARD on BOTTOM

After the lovely response to episode one (thanks, all), there's more excellent comedy nattering to come...

This Thursday, we will be talking to comedy writer and performer Danielle Ward about her passion for Bottom, which sounds like an appalling slur, but isn't. This episode is a delightful celebration of Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson's slapstick masterwork, a show which Danielle describes as "Beckett for kids". We'll be smashing it apart with a frying pan to see all the cogs inside, but with love.

The discussion centres on the episode "Culture" in which our low-rent heroes have to survive half an hour without their television. All of Bottom is avaialble on the big streaming platforms, but if you want to swot up before this week's edition, that particular ep can be watched here:
